On the 12th of January 2016 I had started my first day at Open Doors Youth Service as youth and Family support worker / Student practitioner. It was such a small service. I don’t remember what I was expecting but It definitely was a culture shock—of sorts. Overall, I would not be the child and youth care practitioner that I am today if it wasn’t for the lessons learned from the staff at Open Doors Youth Service, and as I begin a new chapter in my career, I will always remember those invaluable experiences with my new friends and colleagues at Open Doors. Zach Hazen – Student Youth Worker
I came on to the board of Open Doors Youth Service, having previously worked as the President of the Brisbane Gay & Lesbian Business Network because I wanted to be part of a team that made meaningful change to lives of LGBTIQ young people. After coming on board & hearing the stories of some of our most at need young people, it has made me realise even more the importance a service Open Doors has in our community. It is an absolute pleasure working with our team who are passionate about making positive change to our young people. We are working together with community groups and government to extend our services offered. It is an honour and privilege to be part of the Open Doors team.
