Volunteer 

Open Doors Youth Service relies on volunteers to bring diversity, experience, maturity and fun to the space and can provide great opportunities for skill building, professional and social development and giving back to the community.

Volunteering with us is a wonderful way to meet people in the community and represent an organisation who takes pride in what they stand for and prioritises providing a safe and inclusive environment for our young people.

There are numerous volunteering opportunities with Open Doors, including:

  • Administration
  • Events and market stalls
  •  Social group co-facilitation 
  • Fundraising

Requirements

  • Must be aged 24 years or older
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Working With Children Card (Blue Card)
  • Must be able to commit to 6-12 months of volunteering
  • An understanding of LGBTIQAP+ terminology, language, barriers and intersectionalities
  • A team player who is confident interacting with young people, community members, stakeholders and public speaking
  • Ability to work autonomously, in a reliable and trustworthy manner

Desirable

  • Prior experience working or volunteering with young people aged 12-24
  • Prior experience working or volunteering with the LGBTIQAP+ community
  • First Aid and CPR training
  • Current National Police Check
  • Valid Driver’s License 

Board, Sub-Committee & Advisory Panel Members

Open Doors Youth Service is Queensland’s leading youth homelessness and support service enriching the lives of young people with diverse genders, sex, sexualities, and bodies. We support high risk and at-risk young people in developmentally and culturally appropriate ways to provide individual, group-based, and family support to enhance connections to family, culture, and community.

Open Doors Youth Service Inc. is seeking expressions of interest from the community to join as a volunteer across our Board, Sub-Committees and Advisory Panels. The Board is seeking volunteers with experience across a range of professions and experience, including:

  • Experience in clinical service management (youth social work, alcohol and other drugs and mental health fields preferred)
  • Training Services Management
  • Finance Management (CPA/CFA)
  • Legal advisory and expertise
  • General corporate governance experience
  • Marketing and communications
  • Not for profit fundraising, branding and stakeholder management

We value the unique and individual contributions each volunteer brings to the organisation. There are different levels of time commitment we ask of our volunteers, from participation in monthly meetings, to adhoc project-based support, aligned with delivering our Strategy. Youth Reference Group

The Open Doors Youth Reference Group (YRG) is made up of 8-12 LGBTIQ+ young people aged 12-24.

The YRG aims to ensure that the voices and perspectives of Queer young people are heard and represented in all aspects of the organisation. The group guides Open Doors to provide the best service possible to LGBTIQ+ young people and advises/advocates on issues currently impacting the lives, health and wellbeing of Queer young people.
